Another of my personal favourites. However, I am also faced with the harsh reality of the fact that I will never have time to revisit this story again; and so I made the tough decision to let it go. A lovely story of the lives of people and a city through the history of the restaurant, Quentins. It is funny at times, and tear-jerking at others. A heart-warming book and you really would want to finish this in a sitting. I remember reading it during one of the Chinese New Year holidays and I enjoyed it immensely. And Maeve Binchy knows exactly how to make the characters feel like they're your family and your own circle of friends.

The Whole World Over by Julia Glass

RM15
Condition: Excellent & Wrapped
Genre: Fiction

Bought this while on a holiday. A cute story but not one for those who are in to finish a book fast. It's 500-pages long. But great writing style.

Synopsis on back cover:
Greenie Duquette lavishes most of her passionate energy on her Greenwich bakery and her four-year-old son, George. Her husband, Alan, seems to have fallen into a mid-life depression, while Walter, her closest professional ally, is nursing a broken heart. It is at Walter's restaurant that the visiting governor of New Mexico tastes Greenie's coconut cake and decides to woo her away from the city to be his chef. For reasons both ambitious and desperate, she accepts - and finds herself heading west without her husband. This impulsive decision, along with events beyond Greenie's control, will change the course of several lives around her. The Whole World Over is a vividly human tale of longing and loss, folly and forgiveness, revealing the subtle mechanisms behind our most important, and often the most fragile, connection to others.

High Risk

RM10
Condition: Good and Brand New (however, pages have turned a little yellow with time)
Genre: Fiction, Thriller
(note: The photo of the cover is slight different from the original cover)

This is yet another book I never got to reading simply because I have a bad habit of buying more new books without finishing what I have yet. I bought it because I was intrigued by the synopsis. Unfortunately, I really am a busy bee. Looking for a new owner who would actually get down to reading it.

Snippet of synopsis on back cover:
In a single day of awesome destruction, nature's fury is unleashed on opposite sides of the Earth. While TV presenter Josie Turner's tycoon husband is stranded in a brutal storm on Everest, avalanche expert Hal Maher is involved in nailbiting rescue in a remote Alaskan valley. A good book. Got me back on track. Got me standing through the realization of some truths. Would recommend to any friend or person who is wanting to face their giants in life. Max Lucado has a way of making complicated matters look simple. Easy to read.

Synopsis on back cover:
You know your Goliath. You recognize his walk. The thunder of his voice. He taunts you with bills you can't pay, people you can't please, habits you can't break, failures you can't forget, and a future you can't face. But just like David, you can face your giant, even if you aren't the strongest, the smartest, the best equipped, or the holiest.

David. You could read his story and wonder what God saw in him. His life has little to offer the unstained, straight-A saint. He fell as often as he stood, stumbled as often as he conquered. But for those who know the sound of a Goliath, David gives this reminder: Focus on the Giants - you stumble. Focus on God - your giants tumble.

If you're read to face your giants, let his story inspire you. The same God who helped him will help you.

Extreme Godchasers by Tommy Tenney

RM15
Condition: Good and wrapped
Genre: Non-fiction, Christian literature

I read this book when I was in Form 6. He craves the pursuit like a child who chases a loving parent until, suddenly, the strong arms of the father enfold the chaser. The pursuer becomes the pursued...God chasers don't apologize for their passion as they run in relentless pursuit of Christ, even though they may appear foolish in the eyes of others.

The Rainmaker by John Grisham

RM12
Condition: Used & unwrapped
Genre: Fiction, Thriller

Another John Grisham. Need I say more? Fans of his will grab this book for their collection. One of the earlier books I read and it was quite a page-turner.

Synopsis on back cover: Eleven-year-old Mark Sway and his younger brother were sharing a forbidden cigarette when a chance encounter with a suicidal lawyer left Mark knowing a bloody and explosive secret: the whereabouts of the most sought-after dead body in America. Now Mark is caught between a legal system gone mad and a mob killer desperate to cover up his crime. And his only ally is a woman named Reggie Love, who has been a lawyer for all four years. Prosecutors are willing to break all the rules to make Mark talk. The mob will stop at nothing to keep him quiet. And Reggie will do anything to protect her client - even take a last, desperate gamble that could win Mark his freedom...or cost them both their lives.

#1 Best-seller phenomenon!

The Chronicles of Narnia - BRAND NEW!

RM30
(Actual retail price is RM79.90)
Condition: Super Excellent, brand new!

2 copies available

Author: C.S. This is one of the best books I've read! Only an author like Jodi Picoult is able to cover such a serious issue like high school shootings, and yet maintain a sense of humour in the appropriate of places, while blending in emotional rollercoaster rides and making good discussion of social issues today. You won't get bored at any point. At some pages you would probably laugh as loud as I did, and at others, you might shed a tear or two. But overall, very easy reading. It's easy to get lost in the book!

I am very reluctant to part with this book but a good story should get back out there. You don't want to miss a good book. Personally, this book was even better than The Time Traveler's Wife, and even that, was a really good book already. This book is top on my list for now, until I find another excellent book.

This book is priced at a slightly higher price because it is a really good book kept in very good condition and I am looking for someone who will take good care of it, and perhaps pass it on to another fellow booklover. =)

A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks

RM6
Genre: Fiction
Condition: Used & Unwrapped

Fans of Nicholas Sparks would devour this book. I am a booklover who tends to go against the caution to not judge a book by its cover! To me, I find it quite hard to read a book with a horrible-looking cover! I mean, as a designer/publisher, how hard is it to make sure your book cover's really captivating right? Anyway, I digress...Haha...

This book, unlike its cover, is slightly serious, as in not like a pure chick-lit, but is able to cover more real issues in life like sister rivalry, reflecting on one's weaknesses and failures, etc. My good friend who read it, as well, said it was a good book, with an interesting story line. I guess, if you saw the movie (which came out a few years after the book), you might want to get the book. However, I saw the movie and the book was much better. The book, is often better, in my opinion.

So if you like chick-lit, but can't stand the shallowness of typical girly gossip and nonsense, and at the same time, if you don't like intense fiction, this book is a good in-between.

Need my help?

I have been thinking about it and I have made a decision. Whenever I read a good book from a particular author, I am not satisfied. After all, how much can you gauge on an author's writing style just by reading one book? So I often rush to the bookstore to get a second title. Just for variety's sake. This second book, was no disappointment. Which of us hasn't had the secret binge? The secret habit? Or any secret at all. Another emotionally-intense book. Get ready with those tissues.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Synopsis on backcover: Meet Dolores Price. She's thirteen, wise-mouthed but wounded, having bid her childhood good-bye. Stranded in front of her bedroom TV, she spends the next few years nourishing herself with the Mallomars, potato chips, and Pepsi her anxious mother supplies. When she finally orbits into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder. But this time she's determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before she really goes under.
Highlights:
#1 New York Times Bestseller
Listed in Oprah's Book Club
I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb - SOLD!
RM12 (SOLD)
Genre: Fiction
Book Condition: Excellent & Wrapped
This book carries a very intense tone. Possible to finish in one sitting. Read below for a synopsis on the book. If you liked Circle of Friends, you would love this book.
"When Kit McMahon is 12, her sad and distant mother disappears while walking along the lake. Authorities find the family's boat overturned, and, when Kit discovers a sealed letter addressed to her father, she fears that the suicide confession will keep her mother from a consecrated burial. She burns the letter, adding another burden to her misery. Helen is not dead, however. She has run off to London for great and compelling reasons, where she adopts the name Lena Gray and eventually becomes the director of an important employment agency. When Kit discovers her there years later, the anguish of both women is intensified by the complex situation, and the secret they now share eventually explodes in a way neither could have foreseen. A weeper of an ending brings this compelling saga to an unforgettable climax."
- Publishers Weekly -
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold - SOLD
RM3 (SOLD!)
Genre: Fiction
A book not like any other.
