Quentins by Maeve Binchy - SOLD

RM10 (SOLD!)
Condition: Good & Wrapped
Genre: Fiction

I am really really reluctant to let this go. Another of my personal favourites. However, I am also faced with the harsh reality of the fact that I will never have time to revisit this story again; and so I made the tough decision to let it go. A lovely story of the lives of people and a city through the history of the restaurant, Quentins. It is funny at times, and tear-jerking at others. A heart-warming book and you really would want to finish this in a sitting. I remember reading it during one of the Chinese New Year holidays and I enjoyed it immensely. And Maeve Binchy knows exactly how to make the characters feel like they're your family and your own circle of friends.

The Whole World Over by Julia Glass

RM15
Condition: Excellent & Wrapped
Genre: Fiction

Bought this while on a holiday. A cute story but not one for those who are in to finish a book fast. It's 500-pages long. But great writing style.

Synopsis on back cover:
Greenie Duquette lavishes most of her passionate energy on her Greenwich bakery and her four-year-old son, George. Her husband, Alan, seems to have fallen into a mid-life depression, while Walter, her closest professional ally, is nursing a broken heart. It is at Walter's restaurant that the visiting governor of New Mexico tastes Greenie's coconut cake and decides to woo her away from the city to be his chef. For reasons both ambitious and desperate, she accepts - and finds herself heading west without her husband. This impulsive decision, along with events beyond Greenie's control, will change the course of several lives around her. The Whole World Over is a vividly human tale of longing and loss, folly and forgiveness, revealing the subtle mechanisms behind our most important, and often the most fragile, connection to others.

High Risk

RM10
Condition: Good and Brand New (however, pages have turned a little yellow with time)
Genre: Fiction,
Thriller
(note: The photo of the cover is slight different from the original cover)

This is yet another book I never got to reading simply because I have a bad habit of buying more new books without finishing what I have yet. I bought it because I was intrigued by the synopsis. Unfortunately, I really am a busy bee. Looking for a new owner who would actually get down to reading it.

Snippet of synopsis on back cover:
In a single day of awesome destruction, nature's fury is unleashed on opposite sides of the Earth. While TV presenter Josie Turner's tycoon husband is stranded in a brutal storm on Everest, avalanche expert Hal Maher is involved in nailbiting rescue in a remote Alaskan valley. After the cataclysm, Josie and Hal are brought together in their own attempt on Everest. It becomes a desperate fight for survival.

The Custom of the Sea by Neil Hanson

RM12
Condition: Good and Brand New (however, pages have turned a little yellow with time)
Genre: A true story of shipwreck and cannibalism on the high seas

This is another book I never got to reading simply because I have a bad habit of buying more new books without finishing what I have yet. But I know it will be a good story. I actually bought it while I was in Australia a couple of years ago. Looking for a new owner who would actually get down to reading it. I am too busy for my own hobby.

Snippet of synopsis on back cover:
This is the true story of the voyage and the subsequent court case which outlawed for ever a practice followed since men first put to the ocean in boats: the custom of the sea.

Touched by an Angel

RM8
Condition: Used & Unwrapped
Genre: Fiction, based on stories from the Hit Television Series

I loved watching the series when I was younger, on Hallmark channel. Filled with heart-warming stories. Good always overcoming evil. All sorts of lessons to be learnt. A good read for weekends as part of your relaxation.

Facing Your Giants by Max Lucado

RM 18
(Actual retail price: RM39.95)
Condition: Good & Wrapped
Genre: Non-fiction, Christian literature

I bought this book when I was struggling with some issues in my life. A good book. Got me back on track. Got me standing through the realization of some truths. Would recommend to any friend or person who is wanting to face their giants in life. Max Lucado has a way of making complicated matters look simple. Easy to read.

Synopsis on back cover:
You know your Goliath. You recognize his walk. The thunder of his voice. He taunts you with bills you can't pay, people you can't please, habits you can't break, failures you can't forget, and a future you can't face. But just like David, you can face your giant, even if you aren't the strongest, the smartest, the best equipped, or the holiest.

David. You could read his story and wonder what God saw in him. His life has little to offer the unstained, straight-A saint. He fell as often as he stood, stumbled as often as he conquered. But for those who know the sound of a Goliath, David gives this reminder: Focus on the Giants - you stumble. Focus on God - your giants tumble.

If you're read to face your giants, let his story inspire you. The same God who helped him will help you.

Extreme Godchasers by Tommy Tenney

RM15
Condition: Good and wrapped
Genre: Non-fiction, Christian literature

I read this book when I was in Form 6. A good book. Challenges your faith. Read it if you dare.

Synopsis on back cover:
An extreme God chaser is a dreamer who has been captured by the hope of being caught by the Uncatchable One. He craves the pursuit like a child who chases a loving parent until, suddenly, the strong arms of the father enfold the chaser. The pursuer becomes the pursued...God chasers don't apologize for their passion as they run in relentless pursuit of Christ, even though they may appear foolish in the eyes of others.

The Rainmaker by John Grisham

RM12
Condition: Used & unwrapped
Genre: Fiction, Thriller

Another John Grisham. Fans of his will also grab this book to add on to their collection. Unfortunately, this was a book I purchased and never found the time to read. Instead of letting it sit on my shelf for eons, might as well let it go.

Synopsis on back cover:

It’s summer in Memphis. The sweat is sticking to Rudy Baylor’s shirt and creditors are nipping at his heels. Once he had aspirations of breezing through law school and punching his ticket to the good life. Now he doesn’t have a job or a prayer…except for one: an insurance dispute that leaves a family devastated and opens the door for a lawsuit, if Rudy can find a way to file it.

By the time Rudy gets to court, a heavyweight corporate defense team is there to meet him. And suddenly he’s in over his head, plunged into a nightmare of lies and legal maneuverings. A case that started small is exploding into a thunderous million-dollar war of nerves, skill, and outright violence – a fight that could cost one young lawyer his life, or turn him into the biggest rainmaker in the land…
